Edge of the World

One of our first desert excursions was to visit the Edge of the World just outside Riyadh. After hiking up to the cliff the differences between Ollie and Aliya had never been more apparant. Ollie was constantly lecturing us on how dangerous our situation was, and Aliya was literally running toward the edge as she threw rocks over the cliff. I had Wade take the photo of us below so I could just hold onto her for a second. She's my adrenaline junky.

It was an incredible sight and really did give us the sensation that we had reached the edge of the world. Supposedly the entire area was once underwater. This world is amazing.

The drive through the desert was an adventure all its own, and we loved our first (and definitely not our last) encounter with camels; we still get really excited every time we see one. I remember soon after I started working at Glowork I was out to lunch with some of the girls. Amal asked me if I thought that camels roamed the streets of Riyadh. I laughed because I know that Riyadh is a modern city, but I think many foreigners like me expect to encounter camels in Riyadh's streets. I'm here to tell you, and to help Amal set the record straight, that you won't find camels in the city streets.
